/Discursive Formation
A selfie creates a discourse when the author is not the subject of the selfie. In particular, a discourse is formed when the audience’s attention is first directed to an object present in the selfie, and the qualities of that object are then translated to the author. The author of this kind of selfie wants to convince the audience that the object portrayed says something about the author’s character.
