/Identification

A selfie shows identification when the picture, as utterance, participates mostly in forensic discourse. Forensic discourse establishes the positive trait of an action in the past. This kind of selfie shows the authors affiliating themselves with an already established discourse community, and the character of that discourse community translates to the character of the authors. Often, the author is portrayed wearing garments of a specific school or sport team, using a particular brand of products, or visiting recognizable establishments. The authors in this kind of selfie want to convince the audience that they participate in communities that revolve around a specific institution or brand.
